Meditation Garden
The A.R.E. Meditation Garden in Virginia Beach was renamed the Harris Prayer and Meditation Garden after being renovated, expanded, and beautified, thanks to a generous donation by A.R.E. member Samuel D. Harris. A wooden stairway leads to the peaceful garden which has a waterfall, a footbridge, stone walkways, relaxing benches, and lighting. It is a mystical place filled with peace.
The motivation behind Dr. Harris' gift was Edgar Cayce, the man. Dr. Harris remembers reading about Edgar Cayce in the book There Is a River nearly 20 years ago.
Dr. Harris says the meditation garden is a way for him to show his appreciation for Cayce, his work and his legacy.
"I just want people to enjoy it as much as I do - that's all."
To be able to remember the sunset, to be able to remember a beautiful conversation, a beautiful deed done where hope and faith were created, to remember the smile of a babe, the blush of a rose, the harmony of a song – a bird's call; these are creative. For if they are a part of thyself, they bring you closer and closer to God.
-- Edgar Cayce reading 1431-1
The most frequently recommended tools for achieving this attunement are the regular practice of prayer and meditation. Cayce believed that prayer was talking to God, while meditation was listening to God. Learn more by downloading our free flier (PDF) on this topic.
