Musical about Edgar Cayce Premieres at The Zeiders Theater Thursday Night
Virginia Beach, Va. – Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. in conjunction with the Zeiders American Dream Theater (The Z) under the leadership of Artistic Director Bart Kuebler, and Executive Director Terry Flint is pleased to announce Remembering Tomorrow: The Lives of Edgar Cayce from writing team Anton Dudley and Michael Cooper.
Remembering Tomorrow: The Lives of Edgar Cayce will run as a part of The Z’s Hatchery Series, which focuses on the development of new work and allows audiences to experience the creative process up close. The Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.) recently partnered with the Zeiders American Dream Theater in commissioning this new musical about Edgar Cayce from the award winning writing team of Anton Dudley and Michael Cooper, the creators of Marguerite. They were given unparalleled research access to the Edgar Cayce archives and were able to immerse themselves in his life and work.
The musical features a cast of eight performers, including three key characters— Edgar Cayce, his wife Gertrude Evans Cayce and his longtime secretary Gladys Davis Turner. Cast members include: Elizabeth Acosta (Gertrude), Taylor Chilton (Gladys), Els Dusek (Woman 2), Duke Lafoon (Edgar Cayce), Marlene Montes (Woman 1), Kevin Schuering (Man 2), A.J. Shivley (Man 3), Anthony Wayne (Man 1) and Morgan White (Dancer).
“The audience will be traveling through time and space over a period of several thousand years,” says Bart Kuebler, music and artistic director of Zeiders American Dream Theater, of the new musical. Remembering Tomorrow will be presented as a staged reading starting Thursday, March 12 through Saturday, at 7:30 p.m. each night. Actors will have script in hand, there will be some scenic elements and projections, minimal costumes, and theatrical lighting. The musical accompaniment will include live piano and percussion, likely drawing on an array of styles and influences from different time periods and diverse cultures—apropos of Cayce’s vision of a world beyond physical and mental barriers.
Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) has been called the “father of holistic medicine” because of his prolific psychic readings addressing the health of the body. For more than 40 years of his adult life, Cayce was sought after by thousands seeking help with issues of the body, mind, or spirit. Cayce founded the non-profit Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.) in 1931, to explore spirituality, holistic health, intuition, dream interpretation, psychic development, reincarnation, and ancient mysteries—all subjects that frequently came up in the more than 14,000 documented psychic readings given by Cayce. The mission of A.R.E. is simply to help people around the world change their lives for the better through the ideas and information found in the Cayce readings. The Virginia Beach headquarters is a popular site for locals and tourists with free daily lectures, a Health Center & Spa, the Cayce/Reilly® School of Massage, an extensive metaphysical library, a meditation garden, a stone labyrinth, and a bookstore and gift shop. Visitors from around the world come to experience conferences featuring speakers on subjects like ancient mysteries, holistic health, and spiritual development. The campus is also home to Atlantic University, which offers two masters degrees (Transpersonal Studies and Leadership Studies) through an online platform, as well as continuing education and certificate programs. Through A.R.E.’s many programs, services, publications, and membership outreach, individuals from all walks of life and religious backgrounds are provided with tools for personal transformation and healing at all levels—body, mind, and spirit.
