Exclusive Chef Now Serving at Cafe67
Inside Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. Health Center & Spa
Virginia Beach, Va. – Just two years ago, A.R.E.’s Cayce/Miller Café opened, featuring Leaping Lizard. But beginning October 2, an exclusive new chef will begin serving local, seasonal fare here. A.R.E. welcomes and introduces Chef Doug Cooperman, owner of the new Cafe67.
At Cafe67, Cooperman aims to nurture more than the body through his cooking and natural, whole foods—he hopes to help feed the soul, too. “Opening Cafe67 is the fulfillment of a lifetime dream for me,” Cooperman said. “I’ve put all of my culinary skill and passion into creating a tasty, locally sourced, healthy, and uncomplicated experience to help make people happy.” The Cafe67 menu draws from Virginia’s farmlands, bay, and ocean to present fresh, seasonal fare for body, mind, and spirit.
Located at 67th Street and Atlantic Avenue inside the A.R.E. Health Center and Spa in the historic Cayce Hospital building, the café’s name carries a larger significance. “The Spa opened in 1967, and I was born in 1967,” Cooperman said, “so given the pattern and connection, Cafe67 seemed like the obvious right name.”
Chef Cooperman began his professional culinary career at the prestigious Clam Bake Club of Newport, R.I. Since then, he has served from California to Spain as executive chef for fine, university, and corporate dining; food services manager; caterer; and a culinary and management educator. More recently, Cooperman was a culinary and management instructor with the Culinary Institute of Virginia, The Art Institute of Washington, and the Culinary Center of Monterey, Calif.
Ideal for late breakfasts and lingering lunches, Cooperman’s Cafe67 is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A sample of the menu includes avocado on sourdough toast with egg; white bean and walnut pate; western scrambled tofu; and tarragon chive chicken salad wrap, to name a few! There are many vegan and gluten-free menu items, as well as options for kids. Perhaps best of all, there’s a Taco of the Day! Chef Cooperman will surprise with daily taco as well as soup and entrée specials.
Views of the Atlantic Ocean are included free with dine-in orders. Or, place a take-out order by calling 757-457-7105. Learn more and see the full Cafe67 menu at EdgarCayce.org/café.
Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) founded the non-profit Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.) in 1931, to explore spirituality, holistic health, intuition, dream interpretation, psychic development, reincarnation, and ancient mysteries—all subjects that frequently came up in the more than 14,000 documented psychic readings given by Cayce, who died in 1945. The mission of A.R.E. is to create opportunities for profound personal change in body, mind, and spirit through the wisdom found in the Edgar Cayce material. The Virginia Beach headquarters is a popular site for locals and tourists with free daily lectures, a Health Center & Spa, the Cayce/Reilly® School of Massage, an extensive metaphysical library, a meditation garden, a stone labyrinth, and a bookstore and gift shop. The campus is also home to Atlantic University which offers two masters degrees (Transpersonal Psychology and Leadership Studies) through an online platform, as well as continuing education and certificate programs. Through A.R.E.’s many programs, services, publications, and membership outreach, individuals from all walks of life and religious backgrounds are provided with tools for personal transformation and healing at all levels—body, mind, and spirit.
