A.R.E. Library Makes Some Noise This Summer
Phased Renovations Bring Good Things
Virginia Beach, Va. – The A.R.E. Library houses one of the largest metaphysical collections in the world with more than 75,000 volumes in the fields of comparative religious studies, holistic health, parapsychology, ancient civilizations, and similar topics. And this spring and summer, the library is getting its first renovation in more than 40 years!
The first phase of renovations began at the beginning of May, but the main portion of the Library will remain open and operational during construction, according to Cassie McQuagge, Director of Support Services and Outreach at Edgar Cayce’s Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.). “The first phase involves transforming the current Media Lounge and adjacent space into the Gail Anita Flagler Room—a three-section, multi-purpose room that will include meeting space, media viewing stations, and a new children’s area. The improvements are expected to take about a month,” McQuagge said.
Visitors to the Library should anticipate there may be a little noise during construction. “We phased the improvements so that we could remain open,” explained McQuagge. “People travel from all over the world to visit the A.R.E., and we would never want to be inaccessible to them.” Future Library renovations are anticipated to begin at the end of summer and be completed in time for the A.R.E.’s largest annual conference—Ancient Mysteries—in early October. These renovations include replacing the 1975 avocado-green carpeting throughout the space, building out the new Josh Coleman Family Room and office spaces, purchasing and repositioning the new check-out desk, and incorporating new lighting and design elements throughout. “Ultimately, these improvements will make visiting the A.R.E. Library an even more positive experience,” McQuagge asserted. All of these renovations are being funded by donations. Go to EdgarCayce.org/donate to learn more.
Located on the second floor of the A.R.E. Visitor Center (at 215 67th Street, Virginia Beach, VA), the A.R.E. Library stands as a living memorial to the life and work of Edgar Cayce, whose more than 14,000 psychic readings form the core of the collection. The A.R.E. Library is open to the public seven days a week: Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.–5 p.m.; and Sunday, 12 noon–5 p.m. Visitors are always welcome to browse, though only A.R.E. members may check out materials.
A.R.E. also offers free activities daily including a lecture, tour, and film, weekend E.S.P. demonstrations, and guided meditations. Featuring some of the nation’s top speakers, A.R.E. Headquarters Conferences include topics meant to enrich and inspire mind, body, and spirit.
Edgar Cayce founded the non-profit Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.) in 1931, to explore spirituality, holistic health, intuition, dream interpretation, psychic development, reincarnation, and ancient mysteries—all subjects that frequently came up in the more than 14,000 documented psychic readings given by Cayce, who died in 1945. The mission of A.R.E. is simply to help people around the world change their lives for the better through the ideas and information found in the Cayce readings. The Virginia Beach headquarters is a popular site for locals and tourists with free daily lectures, a Health Center & Spa, the Cayce/Reilly® School of Massage, an extensive metaphysical library, a meditation garden, stone labyrinth, and a Bookstore and Giftshop. Visitors from around the world come to experience the A.R.E. The campus is also home to Atlantic University which offers two masters degrees (Transpersonal Psychology and Leadership Studies) through an online platform, as well as continuing education and certificate programs. Through A.R.E.’s many programs, services, publications, and membership outreach, individuals from all walks of life and religious backgrounds are provided with tools for personal transformation and healing at all levels—body, mind, and spirit.
