In Spring 2018, I enrolled at Atlantic University for practical reasons: The school was accredited, so the GI Bill would cover tuition, and the topics were fascinating—consciousness, creativity, meditation, dreamwork. At 50 years old, I was, to use a cliché, finding myself…again. I had a strong Christian background, and I loved my Bible; I was familiar with the religious and the spiritual, but the transpersonal was new to me. As I ventured into these classes, I wasn’t sure what to expect from mentors or classmates.

NOVEMBER - Edgar Cayce on Thanksgiving

Edgar Cayce, often called the “Sleeping Prophet” was to give insight and guidance on many topics pertaining to body, mind, and soul. He also was asked to comment on Thanksgiving. Here is his helpful response:

“It is well that you are reminded of how the pilgrims and before them the people with Moses were reminded, not in their days of plenty but in their days of hardship [40 years in the desert searching for the Promised Land with God’s guidance], to set aside a time for thanksgiving. They remembered all their joys, sorrows, disappointments, and hopes. They remembered what theirs might be if - IF - they would but hold to those promises; relying, as it was necessary in those days for a complete dependence upon the bounty of a merciful Father. The Father had a purpose in choosing them and bringing them out of their old countries, old ways, and building up their faith and morals in new ways."

In the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic, stringent lockdowns and mask mandates were implemented in an effort to control this virus. The Arizona Department of Education reacted to the mandates and limited our room occupancy to 5 or less individuals. Our core attendance at the time was 15, hence the mandates kept us from meeting at the Rio Salado College complex. We were very thankful to the Unity Spiritual Center of Sun City for allowing us to use their facility and continue to meet as we had done for so many years.

From spiritual teachings we learn that true life and the true self is within us. As most of us understand, the real and the true is within us, not out here or in our personalities. Our personalities are what Cayce called "projections." Cayce taught that our true self’s motivation and destiny is the cause for our existence.
