Read MoreDr. Harmon Hartzell Bro (1919-1997) worked directly with Edgar Cayce when he and his wife, June, came to Virginia Beach in 1943. That experience led to his doctoral thesis, which examined the life and work of Cayce. Born in China to missionary parents, he was ordained a minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) before serving as associate professor of religion and psychology at George Williams College in Chicago. He was a director at the Institute for Religious Education at Syracuse University and director of the Institute for Research in Psychology and Religion. A frequent speaker at the A.R.E., he was a specialist in parapsychological aspects of religious life, including meditation, faith-healing, and mystical experience. He wrote a number of books, including A Seer Out of Season.
